                   Example Showing the Effects of

Calibration, Collar & Environmental Corrections

In this log example, we will be using the sample calibration and the corrections for an eccentered tool in an 8.5” borehole with 6.75” OD and 4” ID gold collar 1 and 14.4 lb silver mud.  In this example, we see how the calibration, the collar correction, and environmental correction all play a roll in obtaining an accurate API log.

[1] The gold collar effect is rather high for a 1.375” thick collar, approximately 5.2.  Since gold is much denser than stainless steel, I deliberately used a higher correction factor than is found in my software.  But, the thickest collars do require corrections of more than a factor of 5.
